Another year has come and gone, and of course it’s that time of the year when we all start with the ‘new year, new me’ posts. Technically I was meant to post this a few days ago but it’s not too late right? I remember this time last year, I had just come back from a Christmas trip to Lisbon and was visiting my family in Spain. I was still living in London, just recently graduated, and unemployed. Fun times.
I remember thinking to myself, “I’m definitely getting a well paid job in London, so I can rent a nice flat and travel often.” Ha ha. What a joke. Though, to be fair, I still travel a lot.
A new year is over, and another one is just beginning. But I don’t think there’s been a new me this year, it’s more, a wiser me. I’m still the same person, but have learnt a lot of lessons.
I went through a lot of unpaid internships this year, trying to find a stable job. What they don’t tell you in school is that a degree doesn’t mean shit, connections mean so much more. (I’ll delve more into my working experience in another post) My best friends came to visit me in London, and we got to see Beyoncé and Jay Z live, which was an unbelievable concert. I remember in school always thinking about how I’d always wanted to see Beyoncé live. Honestly, the youtube videos just don’t do justice.
I went to India in March after so many years, and had so much fun. Might have gotten a tattoo or two, and have eaten so much amazing food.
I decided to move back to Spain, for now, even though I had sworn I wouldn’t move back. But things change. Saying goodbye to London was such an unusual experience, because I didn’t feel like I was leaving. Spending 4 years in this city had brought me so much joy. I met so many of my current best friends there, went to amazing events and got to live my best life. The reason I probably didn’t feel too sad was because I was heading to Ibiza on holiday first..
But anyways, I moved back home and starting working with my dad, which hasn’t been too bad. I’ve definitely travelled a lot this year. (When do I not?) From visiting Vienna, roaming around Spain, and then finally, visiting my dream country, Australia. One of my favourite memories of this year has been travelling to Singapore, Australia and New Zealand. It was my first time even going to that side of the world, plus I was away for almost a month. During that month I got to explore the beauty of Australia and NZ, and honestly, I didn’t want to come back. It was a dream come true.
Coming back was like someone had thrown a bucket of ice cold water on my face. How do you go back to reality after having the most amazing month?
The rest of the year has been a blur to be honest. I say this every year, but the older I get the faster the time flies and I don’t like it. I’m tired of growing old, take me back to when I was 17 please.
On another note, I delved back into my blog this year, which I had left abandoned for a few years. I’m happy that I’ve brought it back. Though I won’t be considering blogging full time, I love to post on ocassion and share with you guys all about my life. In 2019 I definitely want to update more often, hopefully with a few more travelling stories to tell you.
Another thing I definitely do want to expand in 2019 is my writing. I used to enjoy writing for fun, and I think I definitely need to do it more often. Especially since I have a creative outlet where I can post on.
I’m not the kind of person to create resolutions. I think it’s so much pressure to put on myself anyways. I just want to live a happier life, make the most of my time with my friends and family, and keep on travelling.
This year has been more about conquering my dreams, like travelling to Australia and seeing Beyoncé live. I wish I could say I have an even bigger dream but for now, my dreams just include travelling to wherever life takes me next. I’m all about the spontaneity and living in the moment.
Do you guys have any New Years’ resolutions? Or is there anything on your bucket list for this year?
